FAQs

What is your candle made of?

Every Red Hook Candle Co. candle is poured in a coconut apricot wax base, finished with a small amount of beeswax collected from hives across the country.

What's the deal with the beeswax?

The short version: we've been adding beeswax to the same melter since we poured our first candle in Red Hook, Brooklyn. It never fully empties. Beeswax from Maine, California, New Jersey, and everywhere in between has gone into it over the years. We take from this melter and add it to coconut and apricot wax to create a premium wax that carries fragrance extremely well, and burns clean and consistently. Every candle we pour carries a trace of all of it. The full story is on our About page.

Where does your beeswax come from?

It started at Gowanus Apiary in Brooklyn, where the bees fly over Red Hook. Since then, we've sourced from small apiaries and independent beekeepers across the country -- wherever we've traveled, we've brought wax back. The origin list keeps growing.

How long will my candle burn?

The 7.2oz candle has a burn time of approximately 40--50 hours when cared for properly.

How do I get the best burn?

Trim your wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn. The first time you light it, let it burn long enough for the wax to melt to the edges of the vessel -- this prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the life of the candle. Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

What kind of vessel does the candle come in?

Our candles come in vessels chosen to suit each scent -- clear glass, amber glass, or cobalt blue -- each with a gold lid. The lid isn't just aesthetic -- use it to preserve the scent between burns.

Do you offer a three-pack?

Yes. Our three-pack includes one each of Before the Rain, Last Ember, and Safe Harbor in the 7.2oz size. It's the best way to experience the full collection.

Do you ship everywhere?

We ship throughout the United States.

Can I order custom or private label candles?
